The Crown Series- Works on Paper by Diane Heron- was on exhibition at The de Young Museum in San Francisco, California as part of The de Young Open- October 10, 2020 – January 3, 2021

In 2020, I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area. After the shelter in place order was mandated due to the coronavirus, I needed to go to the grocery store. As I entered the store with mask, gloves and an organized list, it felt like I was in a dystopian film. It was surreal, and the stress was palpable. When I got home, I needed to create. I didn’t have any canvas to paint, but I had some beautiful paper, so I began drawing and posting these drawings on Instagram. I named them The Crown Series, after “The Corona” virus.

This drawing series was highly therapeutic and gave me some relief and joy during that stressful time, which ultimately inspired this 6 ft x 6 ft (182.88 cm x 182.88 cm) piece of 45 drawings, that was part of The de Young Open exhibition at The de Young Museum in San Francisco, California.

I will continue to draw a larger body of work which I propose to be shown as a solo exhibition.
